The Town Council, through a sub-committee headed by Kathy Wheeler comprising residents and councillors, has attracted significant external funding for a major revamp of the older children’s play area in Park Lane. A residents’ survey had indicated overwhelming support for new equipment aimed at 9 to 13 year olds and an ambitious design with a ‘wow’ factor was drawn up.
An image of the new installation can be seen below. As one might expect in Middleham with its historical castle, a structure with a castle outline will be installed. It will provide a large, multi-functional frame including two slides, monkey bars, climbing wall and fireman’s pole, addressing what the survey respondents had indicated they would like to see. The existing swing will be replaced. It is hoped to relocate the older swing elsewhere.
The total value of the new installation is £44,600 (plus VAT that Council will recover). Altogether £41,750 of external funding was secured from 3 sources and the Town Council wishes to thank these organisations for their generosity.
- Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund £21,750
- Richmondshire District Council Play Park Funding Scheme 2021-22 £10,000

The Town Council will make a contribution of £5,258.
